Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 - 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar, for rolling
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets.
- Immediately roll the dough in powdered sugar until completely covered.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden.
- Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a softer cookie, use more granulated sugar.
- Use a ruler to ensure uniform cookie sizes for even baking.
- Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- For festive sugar cookies, use cookie cutters to cut out shapes before baking.
