Ingredients
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes (if using).
- Bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low, and cover.
- Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in sugar and season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly before using.
Notes
- For a smoother sauce, you can use an immersion blender to blend the sauce directly in the pot.
- To intensify the flavor, simmer the sauce for 30-45 minutes.
- Store leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for longer storage.
- A wooden spoon or spatula is helpful for stirring the sauce.
