Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water (105-115°F)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and sugar.
- In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 12 equal pieces.
- Shape each piece into a round roll.
- Place the rolls in a greased 9-inch square baking pan.
- Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
Notes
- For a crispier crust, brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter before baking.
- Using a bench scraper to cut the dough makes it easier to work with.
- Store leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
- Freezing: Freeze baked rolls in a single layer on a baking sheet until solid. Then, transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container. They can be stored for up to 2 months.
