Ingredients
- 1 pound Cuban bread
- 4 ounces thinly sliced ham
- 4 ounces thinly sliced roast pork
- 4 ounces thinly sliced Swiss cheese
- 1/2 head of iceberg lettuce, shredded
- 1/2 cup dill pickle slices
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Slice the Cuban bread horizontally, being careful not to cut all the way through.
- Spread yellow mustard on both halves of the bread.
- Layer ham, roast pork, and Swiss cheese on the bottom half of the bread.
- Top with shredded lettuce and dill pickle slices.
- Close the sandwich.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sandwich to the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- Slice in half and serve immediately.
Notes
- For best results, use authentic Cuban bread. It's a slightly sweet bread with a soft crust.
- Pre-shredded lettuce is convenient, but shredding your own will provide the best texture.
- A panini press can be used instead of a skillet for even browning.
- To keep the sandwich moist, wrap it tightly in foil and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
