Ingredients
- 12 ounces fresh cranberries
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon orange zest (optional)
Instructions
- Combine cranberries, sugar, and water in a medium saucepan.
- Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until sugar is dissolved.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened.
- Stir in orange zest (if using) during the last minute of simmering.
- Remove from heat and let cool completely before serving.
Notes
- For a smoother sauce, use an immersion blender to blend after cooking.
- To prevent crystallization, stir in 1 tablespoon of lemon juice after cooking.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
- This sauce is delicious served warm with roasted turkey or pork, or chilled with ice cream.
