Ingredients
- 1 package (16 ounces) pizza dough
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 pound Italian sausage, removed from casing
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a saucepan, cook sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
- In a bowl, combine ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, oregano, and garlic powder.
- Roll out pizza dough into 12-inch circles.
- Spread 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce on each dough circle.
- Top with ricotta cheese mixture and cooked sausage.
- Fold dough in half to form a half-moon shape. Crimp edges with a fork to seal.
- Brush edges with beaten egg.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Notes
- For a crispier crust, place calzones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- You can add other fillings like pepperoni, mushrooms, or spinach.
- Store leftover calzones in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- To prevent soggy calzones, pre-cook any vegetables like mushrooms before adding them to the filling.
