Oatmeal with apples and brown sugar

Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 4 cups water
- 1 medium apple, peeled, cored, and diced
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the rolled oats and water.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the oats are cooked to your desired consistency.
- Stir in the diced apple and brown sugar. Continue to simmer for another 3-5 minutes, or until the apples are tender.
- Stir in the cinnamon.
- If desired, stir in the butter for extra richness.
Notes
- For a creamier oatmeal, use milk instead of water.
- Adjust the amount of brown sugar to your liking.
- Serve warm with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a drizzle of honey.
- Store leftover oatmeal in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
