Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
- 3/4 cup cold buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the cold buttermilk and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
- Gently pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle.
- Use a biscuit cutter (2-3 inches) to cut out biscuits.
- Place biscuits on an ungreased baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Notes
- Keep all ingredients cold for the flakiest biscuits.
- For extra flaky biscuits, freeze the butter cubes for 15-20 minutes before using.
- Do not overmix the dough, as this will develop the gluten and make the biscuits tough.
- Serve warm with butter, jam, or honey.
